Some Of Our Frequently
Asked Questions

Do You Offer Discounts For Under-Resourced Schools?

Yes! Please contact us at (416) 477-7970, or contact@walkto.tours to inquire about our reduced rates.

How Do I Make A Reservation?

To book a walk for your class use this form or contact us at (416) 477-7970, or contact@walkto.tours. Please provide us with the date you’d like, the name of the tour and the number of students you are booking for. For maximum efficiency, please include a second-choice date.

How Far Ahead Do I Have To Book?

While we do our best to accommodate every request, for larger groups the more lead-time the better. If you can give us a month’s notice that’s ideal. However, we can usually find a date that will work for you, even at the last minute.

Deposit, Payment, And Cancellation

A 25% deposit is due within 7 business days to secure your booking (tours will be removed from our system if the deposit is not paid).

The balance of your payment is due 24 hours before your tour if paid by etransfer, credit card, or P.O., or on the day of your tour if paid by cheque. Tours must be cancelled 14 days before the walk to receive a deposit refund.

Do Your Tours Meet Curriculum Requirements?

Yes. We’ve worked hard to make sure that each and every one of our tours clearly touches on the topics you need to teach. Founded by a teacher, our walks are developed to hit key parts of the Ontario curriculum. Our guides have been instructed in the finer points of inquiry-based learning. Your students will be called upon to be active participants in the Walk T.O. experience, helping them better absorb the content of our walks.

Will There Be A Place For Students To Eat?

Definitely. All of our tours end near several restaurant options, from fast food, to local delicacies. As well, our tours usually have a park within walking distance for students who wish to eat a lunch they brought with them in a quieter setting.

What Time Do Tours Start?

Our tours usually start between 9am and 11am in the morning, or between 1pm and 2pm in the afternoon. Your exact tour start time will be confirmed at time of booking. Due to the nature of Toronto traffic, we advise you to aim to arrive 15 minutes prior to your tour start time.

What If The Weather Is Bad, Like Really Bad?

Walk T.O.’s tours run rain, snow, or shine. Groups will be given the option to reschedule if there is a severe/inclement weather warning or alert issued in the walk area on the morning of the tour.

Are Your Tours Accessible To Disabled Students?

Yes. All our tours can be completed by students with physical disabilities. Please let us know so we can adjust tour routes as needed.

How Will I Find My Guide?

Upon booking you will receive an informtion package with a map and detailed instructions on where to meet your guide. You will also provide a phone number where your guide can reach you on the day of the tour – they will usually call 10-15 minutes before the meeting time to confirm that you are enroute to the right spot.

What Do You Need Me To Do?

While our guides are well-trained to take control of the walk, and keep your students engaged, we find that you, the teacher, are always best at setting the tone for a walk. We encourage you to prep your students for the challenges of listening in the louder environment of the city, as well as helping your students actively participate in the walk.

Can I Take Pictures Or Tape The Tour?

Yes! Please follow school regulations when sharing these pictures on social media.

Can I Book If I’m Not Representing A School?

While Walk T.O. focuses on educational walks, our tours can be adapted for corporate or private clients. Please contact us at (416) 477-7970, or contact@walkto.tours to discuss the touring experience you’re looking for.

Testimonials

“The Green walk was fantastic! It had strong curriculum links for what we cover in class, i.e. ecological footprint and sustainability, as well as alternative land uses and urban planning.”

–Kim E, Head of Geography, Thornhill Secondary School

“Our students enjoyed all aspects of the walk, but if I had to pick a favourite, it would be the reporter-on-the-street activity. We were amazed how they took to it and the courage they demonstrated in approaching the public. The follow up assignments were excellent also. We had them complete the news article as individuals and the advertising assignment in their groups. The rubrics were also well thought out.”

–Alison D, Grade 8 Teacher, Bloordale MS, Etobicoke, ON
